At the September meeting of the Board of Directors for the Northside/Harbourview Hospital Foundation, elections were held for the executive positions. Elected were Daniel McKeough, Chair for a second term; Lynn Clarke, Vice-Chair; Frances MacDougall, Treasurer and Kathy Jessome, Secretary. The Foundation includes 15 members from the local area who are chosen for their commitment to the community and their ability to inspire the support of others. Maura McKeough and LeahSnow were welcomed as two new directors this year.
“The Foundation is committed to improving services at both hospitals by providing new equipment, comfort items for patients and their families as well as offering educational opportunities to employees. Providing the best health care possible for our community is always our top priority,” says Chair Daniel McKeough. “On behalf of the Board, I wish to thank our donors for their continued generosity and much appreciated support over the years.”
The Foundation was incorporated in 1992 as an official charitable fundraising body which supports the Northside and Harbourview hospitals. In the 2011 fiscal year, over $130,000 was donated to these two hospitals which included new microscopes, wheelchairs, a GPS Control Unit- allowing surgeons to remove specific lymph nodes in cancer treatment, recreational items for Seniors Day Clients and Taigh Solas-long term care Northside General. Two palliative care rooms were renovated in partnership with the Cape Breton Hospice Palliative Care Society and the Well Women’s Clinic waiting area received a renovation.
The Board recently hosted their third annual Golf Tournament which raised more than $20,000 for the “Care with Us for a Bus” Campaign. Currently, preparations are underway for the launch of the 2012 Lights for Health event which is one of the largest and most successful fundraising initiatives hosted by the Foundation. The Care with Us for a Bus Campaign is nearing completion and the Foundation will set new priorities for the upcoming 2013 year.
