Neila’s Story

Connor’s Story
Nine-year-old Connor Viva is from Florence, Nova Scotia and attends grade four at Florence Elementary School. He wants to be a referee or a school bus driver when he grows up. Connor has been a patient at the Orthoptic Clinic at Northside General Hospital since he was just 7 months old. He explains his illness as a Pirate Patch. He wears his patch to treat amblyopia - which is secondary to his strabismus (misalignment of the eyes). Read more →
Linden’s Story
Linden McGuigan of Sydney Mines was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in February of 2014. Linden visits the Diabetic Clinic a couple times per month. Linden’s symptoms were fatigue and thirst. Linden finds the Diabetic Clinic helpful and informative and gets the best of treatment from the staff in the clinic. He tries to eat healthy and keeps his sugars in check. Dr. MacIntosh’s Story
“I don’t give because I can, I give because I care”. Dr. MacIntosh gives of his time, and provides gifts to the Northside/Harbourview Hospital Foundation because these hospitals care for his patients, his friends and his family. His favourite part of his job is visiting patients at the hospital and looking out at the water. He attributes the great care his patients receive while in hospital to the incredible staff who provide care for his patients. Read more →

Working with residents, businesses and groups in the community to raise funds for the Northside Gene


Community Engagement class for their generous donation of $962.15 to the Wig Bank!
Through bake sales and carnival games, these students worked hard to raise funds in support of individuals in our community who rely on the Wig Bank during difficult times. Their efforts were so inspiring that one family was moved to match what the class raised—making an even greater impact.
And as promised, their teacher, Mr. Curtis Young, kept his word—if they reached their goal, he would shave his head! True to his promise, he followed through, adding a fun and memorable moment to an already incredible fundraising effort.
This wonderful act of fundraising shows compassion, leadership, and the incredible power of young people making a real difference in their community. Every dollar raised helps ensure that someone in need can access this important support without financial burden.
Thank you to this amazing class for choosing to make a difference. Your kindness will touch lives in ways you may never fully see, but it will always be deeply appreciated.
